TheIMAX"CosmicVoyage"filmwasmadeasapublicservicewithsponsorshipbytheSmithsonianAirandSpacemuseum.OnDVD,borrowedfrommylocalpubliclibrary,itplaysatjustover30minuteswithMorganFreemansupplyingapleasingnarrative.AsonewouldexpectfromanIMAXfilm,theimagequalityissuperbandtheDolby5.1soundtrackisverywelldone.Simulatedcosmicexplosionsshakeyourwalls!Thatis,ifyouhaveagoodpoweredsubwooferinyoursystem.Thefilmtakesaveryusefulapproachtoexaminingthesizeoftheuniverse,fromtinysub-atomicparticlestothevastnessofthewholeuniverse.(Fortunately,whenGodcreatedtheUniversehehaddispatchedafewangelswithvideocamerasatdifferentvantagepointssowegettoseeactualfootagefromseveralbillionyearsago.)ThefilmstartsinVenice,wherethediscoveryofthetelescopeoriginated,andusesaone-meterhoopasareferencepoint,thengraduallygoeslargerbypowersof10,e.g.10meters,100,1000,etcuntilwecanseethewholeuniverse.Thenittakestheoppositejourney,goingsmallerbypowersof10untilbeseeinsidesub-atomicparticles.Thestoryiswell-wovenwithbeautifuleffectscreatedespeciallyforthisfilm.Itisentertainingandeducationalatthesametime.Allof"oldsters"canenjoyitforthescientifichistorywearealreadyfamiliarwith,andallthe"youngsters"canenjoyitfortheeducationalsupplementitprovides.Overallamasterfulfilm.Anynumerical"rating"of"CosmicVoyage"ismeaningless.Ifoneislookingforasuperbfilmaboutouruniverseandmoderntheoriesofitsformation,thisoneishardtobeat.KudostoIMAXandtotheAirandSpaceMuseum.肉眼只能看見穹蒼一角。凝視夜空，但見繁星點點，偶爾一顆流星劃破夜空，但你可曾看見恆星死亡前的最後爆發？瞪視雙手，你或會看見點點塵垢，但你又可曾看見組成皮膚的原子在顫動？因為眼不能見，我們只能縱馳想像，去探索這個深邃廣闊的宇宙。本片獲第六十九屆奧斯卡金像獎最佳紀錄短片提名.
