謝爾蓋·帕拉傑諾夫，1924年生於前蘇聯格魯吉亞的第比利斯，父母都是亞美尼亞人。從小就顯示出他對色彩的敏感和天神一般的繪畫天賦。除了繪畫，從小他就對電影和音樂有著濃厚的興趣。1945年，他21歲，求學莫斯科是他一生的轉折點。他進入俄羅斯電影學院（VGIK）導演系學習拍片。這是一個歷史悠久的著名電影學校，為歐洲大陸貢獻了大批電影大師。之後成為老師杜甫仁科的助手，杜甫仁科是蘇聯詩電影的祖先，塔爾科夫斯基和帕拉傑諾夫都得益於他的教誨。 根據俄羅斯作家萊蒙托夫的故事改編。一個遊吟詩人在路途上花了一千個白天和黑夜，隨時隨地盡其所能為人們帶來快樂。他的流動的生活方式看似毫無目的，其實不然。他希望在一千個日日夜夜之後，能夠掙到足夠的錢舉辦婚禮......如果新娘還在等他的話。 Wandering minstrel Ashik Kerib falls in love with a rich merchant's daughter, but is spurned by her father and forced to roam the world for a thousand and one nights - but not before he's got the daughter to promise not to marry till his return. It's told in typical Paradjanov style, in a series of visually ravishing 'tableaux vivants' overlaid with Turkish and Azerbaijani folksongs.
